Thursday night I did the torchlight descent with the ski school. At 7 we took the train to the top of the mountain and had fondue. Around 9.30 we took the ski lift up and lit our torches and skied down (as far as there was snow: from Chaux Ronde to the Golf). We made a bonfire with our torches and danced and sang the "ski instructor song." It was spectacular to ski down the mountain at night with only torchlight.

hmmm... just how much do you see with a torch in your hand? Do you basically follow the torch of the person in front of you? Does the torch go out when you ski fast? How fast? On a moonlit night it is perhaps easier to see where you ski without torch?
Not too much, but the torches tend to stay on (unless you ski really fast). However for my second descente it was snowing and windy so the torches didn't stay on very long....
