I can't say that I got very much sleep before my first day of classes. I was quite stressed....(especially since all the trainings and meeting beforehand are in rapid French). With the ski instructor book "Idées pour l'Enseignement des Enfants" I gathered a few ideas and made a brief lesson plan. This week I am teaching skiing at the Club Med in Villars (now a 5 star hotel). I will be working at the Club Med the whole week with the same group of kids fron 9 to 3.30 every day. I had a group of nine 3-6 year olds who had almost never skiied before. It was quite a hectic and tiring day.... Overall, the children were adorable and nice. However, I did have to deal with kids crying "maman, maman!!" and one girl who, whenever I tried to teach something, would say, "Laisse-moi tranquille!" (Leave me alone). I was given the multilingual group and had English, French and Spanish speaking children, so each time I said something it would have to be in at least two languages. I must say, it's really good for my language skills. It is truly challenging, though, to have a group of young kids because by the time you help one person down the hill, five others have fallen, one is trying to run away, the others decide they want to go down the hill by themselves..... I will hopefully be in great shape by the end of this as I skiied up the hill at least 40 times this afternoon. It's challenging, but I feel like I'm learning a lot and I love the atmosphere amongst the ski instructors!
